Photo & Video Shoots
Queens Botanical Garden offers a beautiful and unique setting for photo and video shoots. With 18 acres of formal garden areas, we offer countless photo opportunities. Favorite locations include the Rose Garden, Wedding Garden, Annual Beds, Four Seasons Garden, Woodland Garden, and Fragrance Walk.
A Main Garden Photo Permit is necessary for all visitors who use the Queens Botanical Garden for photography, even non-professional photographers capturing special occasions.
Special occasions listed below are a few examples of times a Photo Permit is required but not limited to:
- Weddings
- Sweet 16
- Graduations
- Engagement
- Quinceanera
- Commercial or Personal Promotion
- Any photography or videography that requires the posing of subjects or the use of props
- Portrait shoots, including professional headshots, family, maternity, birthday, graduation, and any large groups

As you plan for your shoot, please keep the following in mind:
- The Garden is closed to the public on Mondays, making it an ideal day for your shoot.
- Queens Botanical Garden is a living museum with a natural landscape that changes and grows season-to-season.
- Reference our Botanical Highlights to get an idea of which plants are typically in season at the time of your shoot.
- Some garden areas may not be available depending on seasonality or previously scheduled programs.
- Standing in or setting up equipment in flowerbeds is strictly prohibited without prior consent from the Garden.
- Changing rooms are available at an additional cost.
- Please review the Garden etiquette guidelines prior to your visit.
Commercial Photo & Video Shoots
For Films, Movies, Television, Fashion Shoots, Publications etc…
All commercial photo and video shoots require a filming permit, as well as a letter of intent to be received at least two weeks in advance of the shoot.
The following items are required in the Letter of Intent:
- Date, time, and purpose of the shoot
- Number of people (production and talent) in your party
- Type of equipment you intend to use
- Locations in the Garden you wish to shoot
- How you intend to distribute your work and its intended audience
Queens Botanical Garden reserves the right to refuse permission for a shoot based on the size of the production, content, subject matter, theme, distribution, or other reasons incompatible with the mission of the Garden. You must also agree to provide Queens Botanical Garden with a copy of all the publicity or final products. Queens Botanical Garden must be appropriately credited, as agreed upon at the time that the shoot is scheduled.
Once the shoot has been scheduled and a rental price agreed upon, the following must be provided at least two weeks in advance of the shoot:
- Deposit consisting of one-half of your rental fee
- Liability Insurance Certificate in the amount of $1,000,000 listing Queens Botanical Garden Society, Inc. and the City of New York as additional co-insured.
Post–Shoot Requirements
- Queens Botanical Garden requests a copy of all publicity or final products. All materials must have Queens Botanical Garden appropriately credited, as agreed upon at the time that your shoot.
