Landscape Architectural Services for
New Kid’s Culture Garden at Queens Botanical Garden
Queens Botanical Garden (QBG) is seeking proposals from qualified landscape architects to provide full design and construction-phase services for the new Kid’s Culture/Discovery Garden, an approximately 19,900 SF interactive outdoor educational space adjacent to the future Education Building.
The Kid’s Culture/Discovery Garden is envisioned as a key educational feature of QBG’s 2020 Master Plan. The approximately 1/2 acre site will be located at the east end of the Meadow and across the walking path from the newly planned Education Building.
While primarily a drop-in space that will be publicly accessible during operating hours, the new garden will also serve both self-guided and guided school groups, families, and the Garden’s teen docent program. Design elements may include: interactive “living exhibits” showcasing global planting traditions which link to ecology and science learning; Cultural Elements reflective of Queens’ diversity and indigenous peoples; Play features; Water Play especially those that incorporate water. management and irrigation grounded in cultural traditions; Storage and Covered Space; and Interpretive and Wayfinding Signage.
