In celebration of this year’s Taiwan: A World of Orchids, mixologist Cathy Li has created delicious orchid-inspired cocktail and mocktail recipes that you can make and enjoy at home! Read below for more information about Cathy and her outstanding recipes.

Originally from Taipei, Taiwan, Cathy is a part-time photographer and equestrian who works in the trade industry and enjoys a glass of pure malt scotch whiskey after a long day. When the pandemic hit last year, Cathy had to put many things that she enjoys on hold, spending most of her time at home. Around this time, the creative bug came crawling, and Cathy began to take on mixology by experimenting with various ingredients and liquors. To Cathy, mixology is not just about the taste; it’s an experience. Cathy’s cocktails are carefully crafted, not only in taste but also in presentation and aesthetics, as every cocktail comes with a theme and inspiration. What began as an activity to kill time became hundreds and hundreds of likes per cocktail on social media. Cathy has combined her love of Taiwan, orchids (her favorite flower!), and mixology to create a mocktail and two unique cocktail recipes that will refresh your summer and introduce the sweet fragrance of orchid into your taste palate!

Orchid-Inspired Recipes

Empress Orchid Tonic – 蘭花仙子Orchid cocktail, tall glass, colors of purple, by poolside

Empress 1908 Gin – 2 oz

Fever Tree Tonic – 5 oz

1883 Orchid Syrup – 1 oz
Fresh Lemon Juice – 0.75 oz
B’lure Butterfly Pea flower extract – 15 drops

Garnish – Orchid flower and Homemade lace tuiles.

Mix the bottom ingredients with bar spoon, pour into a chilled ice filled glass. Slowly add the chilled Fever Tree Tonic. Using the back of the bar spoon, carefully float the Empress 1908 Gin on top. Garnish with lace tuiles and orchid flower.

Orchidée La Magnifique – 空谷幽蘭Cocktail with orchid flower surrounded by green leaves

空谷有佳人,倏然抱幽獨。東風時拂之,香芬遠彌馥。《蘭花》明 孫克弘

Vodka – 1.75 oz
Tropical Orchid Elixir – 1 oz
Fresh Lemon Juice – 0.75 oz
Martini & Rossi – 0.75 oz
Simple Syrup – 0.25 oz
Grapefruit Bitter – 3 drops
Egg White from 1 egg
Pitaya Powder – a small pinch

Garnish – Orchid flower and Homemade lace tuiles.

Add all ingredients into shaker, dry shake vigorously until foaming. Add small amount of ice and shake continuously until all ice melts to chill the cocktail. Strain the chilled cocktail into a chilled glass. Garnish with lace tuiles and orchid flower.

Tropic Orchid – 蘭花宴 (Mocktail)

Tropical Orchid Elixir – 1 oz
Fresh Lemon Juice – 1 oz
Pineapple Juice – 1.5 oz
Guava Juice – 1 oz
Simple Syrup 1 oz
Sparkling Water 9 oz

Add all ingredients except the sparkling water into the shaker and shake to mix. Pour 1/3 mixed mocktail into an ice filled 6 oz glass. Top it off with sparkling water.

The above recipe is enough to make three ice filled glass of 6 ounce mocktail.
