Calling all urban foragers, herbalists, botanists, and the foraging/herbalism/botany-curious! Queens Botanical Garden is partnering with bioregional herbalist Calyx Liddick of Northern Appalachia School for this hands-on, two-day intensive course. We will cover observing the natural world, plant identification, safe and ethical wild harvesting, basic phytochemistry, and principles of herbal medicine making. Get hands-on experience identifying medicinal plants for harvest and making herbal extracts. Register for both days and save, or come for one.

Dates: Saturday, June 17 & Sunday, June 18, 9am to 3pm

Registration required. Minors ages 13 and up are permitted with participating adult.

Fees
Non-Member: $200 for two days; $125 for one day
Member*: $180 for two days; $115 for one day

On day one, you’ll walk away with:

  • A framework for identifying common edible and medicinal plants
  • The basics of field botany, ecology, positive ID, and plant families
  • Knowledge of harvesting tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of essential post-harvest processing

On day two, you’ll walk away with:

  • Knowledge of the principles of herbal medicine making
  • The ability to use your 5 senses to assess medicine you’ve made
  • Hands-on practice making water infusions, decoctions, tinctures, and oxymels
  • Knowledge of the “how” and “why” to select basic remedies
  • More knowledge of essential post-harvest processing

About Calyx Liddick

Calyx graduated with honors from the Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism’s Fundamental and Advanced Medical Herbalism intensives, and completed the Clinical Program for Herbalism, Nutrition, and Flower Essence Therapy. She also holds certifications in Holistic Aromatherapy and Reiki. She has over 2,000 hours of training and over a decade of experience in her field. She is a Certified Clinical Herbalist, Certified Nutritionist, Certified Bach Flower Essence Practitioner and Certified Aromatherapist through the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy
