Rooted in queer/feminist ethics of care, the Ciba Punch 女拳手打糍粑 is an ongoing participatory-performance series that invites multicultural community members to punch steamed sticky rice into rice cakes. It reclaims the feminized, ostracized labor of cooking in domestic spaces and sees food as a queer/feminist, processual archive for movement building. Spiritual Figures, embodying queer/feminist ancestors and our future selves, roam around the ciba punchers to provide spiritual guidance through humming and breathing. Channeling our rage, grief, and love for each other into communal labor of food-making, Ciba Punch invites participants to reimagine and celebrate (em)power(ment) as radical non-violence.
