11-25 hours a week

Mission
Queens Botanical Garden is an urban oasis where people, plants and cultures
are celebrated through inspiring gardens, innovative educational programs
and demonstrations of environmental stewardship.

Queens Botanical Garden (QBG) is a private non-profit cultural institution located on 39 acres of New York City public land within the densely-populated community of Flushing, New York. A visitor survey reveals that 75% of visitors speak a language other than English at home. This astounding fact underscores the importance of the mission and the challenges and opportunities QBG faces daily in creating programs, exhibits and landscapes that serve the needs of people in one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the nation and within a community that is also a beacon to people from around the world. The Garden has committed itself to addressing the complex and ever changing needs of its diverse community and to being the place where people, plants and cultures meet.

Admission Cashier/Weeder/Greeters at Queens Botanical Garden have the primary responsibility of operating the ticketing booth, selling admission tickets to guests, admitting members and group visits. Greeting duties include customer service; fielding questions about content, providing directions around the Garden, providing information about upcoming programs and events. Candidates must be knowledgeable about the Garden’s admission and parking pricing policies as well as on the benefits of Garden membership. At specified seasons and times during working shifts, Cashier/Weeder/Greeters weed planted areas adjacent to ticketing booths and groom and water plants.

 Responsibilities Include:

  • Completing ticket transaction purchases by:
  • Greeting each guest and identifying tickets requested
  • Using a touch screen computer Point of Sale System to process ticket request
  • Completing member, credit card and cash transactions, distributing correct change and admission ticket to the visitor
  • Thanking the guest, and providing them with information on the Garden
  • Ensuring the security of all ticket booth cash and tickets
  • Keeping ticket booth and surrounding area clean and well organized
  • Performing daily ticket booth maintenance duties and complete various reports as needed
  • Answering questions from guests and resolving any concerns
  • Assisting with other functions as instructed by Visitor Services Supervisors
  • Weeding planted areas in the vicinity of ticketing booth and at specified times, weed areas further away from booths with guidance from horticulture staff and help from volunteers.

Qualifications:

  • Customer Service Skills, administrative and follow-up skills
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with guests in high-volume setting
  • Good verbal communication skills as well as math and cash handling skills
  • Physical ability to weed, which includes bending and kneeling
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines under minimal supervision
  • Weekend availability preferred
  • May be asked to stay late for special event evenings
  • Second language preferred
