September 2007 Construction Update
Construction has continued throughout the summer in preparation for the Ribbon Cutting on September 27th. The exterior sun shade, or brise soleil, has been installed giving a finished look to the outside of the building. Benches have been installed on the terrace, and a new hanging system on the first floor showcases pieces by Queens artists.
The auditorium is almost ready for occupancy with freshly painted walls, FSC certified maple paneling, and a new audio/visual system. The footprint of the old Administration Building has been entirely replaced with the beginnings of a water channel, paved entry plaza and rainwater fountain. Work continues on the water systems this month in preparation for opening celebrations.
Interpretive wayfinding throughout the Garden and Gathering By Water exhibit signage was installed at the beginning of this month, complete with garden map kiosks, interpretive graphics, trailside directionals and a new building sign!
